PRESS STATEMENT | 24th November, 2015

If we talk of Islamic fundamentalism then fight against terrorism must be led by Muslims', says Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs

Crux Creative Solutions organized the first edition of “India Security Conclave” at New Delhi on 24th November, 2015, on 7th anniversary of 26/11 attacks on Mumbai.

India Security Conclave was inaugurated by Shri Kiran Rijiju, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. In his inaugural address Shri Rijiju said that India has given dossiers on Dawood, Hafiz Sayeed and Maulana Masood to Pakistan, however they are not getting support. Highlighting the importance that faces us in form of ISIS, Shri Rijiju added that India does not face an eminent threat of ISIS, as it has not been able to make a strong hold in this country, however, in Eastern Europe, the roots of ISIS are strong, however they are trying to get a foot hold in India, and the Government is taking steps to tackle this menace, adding that this was a very important topic which is not a problem faced by one nation but has become a global problem.

Discussing about the rising terrorism across the world, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju said that 'if we talk of Islamic fundamentalism then the fight against terrorism has to be led by the Muslims'. "If we talk about the Islamic fundamentalism then the fight against terrorism has to be led by the Muslims. If there is a problem within the Buddhist segment, then the fight has to be led by the Buddhists. If there is a problem within the Hindu community, then the fight has to be led by the Hindus so that it doesn't take a religious colour. Some people will definitely try to put it in a different mode and change the whole discourse of discussion," he said while speaking at the inaugural series of India Security Conclave.

Shri Rijiju also said that India is facing a much more complex problem than any other country with respect to terrorism. "Threat of terror is not confined to one country, region or religion. It has become a global threat. It is not only the effort of the Governments but of society as a whole which will make the world a peaceful place," he said.

The event saw participation of senior government official, senior police officers from various states and paramilitary forces. In her opening remarks Ms. Shelly Bhasin, CEO Crux Creative Solutions presented findings of a survey carried out by Crux Creative Solutions where various security related questions were asked to citizens. The findings of the survey were presented, which clearly stated that more needed be done on internal security front. The survey also pointed out that women in particular do not feel safe with security apps, but more ground level policing was important to curb crimes against women.

Ms. Shelly Bhasin also added that, India had no reason to be complacent. The new internal security challenges arising out of contemporary trends like increasing urbanization, growth of mega cities, demographic shifts, rising expectations of the youth and social media, need to be taken into account. Better training for police and modernization of police forces is the way forward.

In welcoming remarks Shri Arvind Ranjan, Former DG, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) & National Security Guard (NSG) said history of terrorism shows that lethality of the attacks is increasing, there is increasing unpredictability about the time and the place of such attacks. The capacity of the terrorists to launch multiple terror attacks at multiple targets, making easier for the “lone wolves”to come together and launch such attacks, inspite having not met even once at different locations, leaving the target country in complete chaos and panic, are on the rise. On the way forward for the country, Shri Ranjan added that there needs to be synergy between Police force and Security Personnel to prevent incidents of terrorism and civilians to play the role of stakeholders in this conventional war.
